Over Christmas we were a little perplexed as we had a couple of calls and emails from people believing that the retreat had been taken over by the Baptist Association and/or the Methodist Church!!!

I can assure you this is not the case. Trelowarren Retreat continues to remain an independent Charity with its own board of Trustees who are recruited from all mainstream denominations.

Having said that it has always been the vision and indeed part of our founding articles and mission to help resource the Church both locally nationally and internationally.

Consequently we are excited and delighted to welcome the Lizard Christian Fellowship, who will be using our Chapel and Library every Sunday afternoon to hold their weekly meeting.

If you require any further information about the meeting please see contact details below.

Last week some friend’s came to see us who normally are the conference type of Christian and indeed I would say Mike and I used to fall into that category. I personally would organize my work diary around conferences ensuring I would not miss one session for fear of missing out on any new vital revelation or heavenly download Of course now that’s impossible a retreat to run and miles and miles away from any we would consider going to … it is not as though we can just pop in for an evening meeting!! And consequently a lot of our conferencing is now done over the Internet thank God for live streaming although a retreat to run does mean we often miss sessions!

Conferences for me are a bit like going up to the House of the Lord (Psalm 122:1 and not to mention a huge worship fix to see me through the general trials and hum drum of life. Away of getting cleaned up washed down and ready to start all over again. Mostly the teaching is awesome with always-fresh manna in the house.

However, discussing this with our friend we all deduced we had missed something The Retreat!

They initially came down to see us to encourage and bless. However, our God as always (I’m sure he was the original inventor of the bog off offer 2 for 1) ensured they did not go short. Facing some fairly momentous decisions in their own lives, during their stay with us the Lord really ministered to them. By speaking deep and hidden truths into their own very personal situation coupled with phenomenal encouragement through prophetic words and appropriate scripture. They left feeling uplifted encouraged and above all else confident that Father God really was on to the situation.

So… Conferences verses Retreats

Travelling to both Conferences and Retreats can be viewed as making a pilgrimage –Lord we are really serious about meeting with you. However, retreats by their nature are often in secluded, secret places so journey’s can be more difficult. It is all worth it because once you have arrived you will hear the silence. See the stars shine brighter, feel the wind, smell the fragrances of nature and taste the air.

At Conferences you hear Gods voice through the word being imparted and expanded to you and in that to some extent Mans interpretation. On retreat its one on one you and God alone.

At conference it is loud exciting and vibrant worship. On retreat you slip into a daily rhythm of prayer gentle worship, quiet meditation and reflection.

Conferences are great to catch up with friends, meet and make new ones. Great opportunities for networking, product purchases and the latest must have. On retreat all that fades into insignificance, it’s just you and the Lord getting down to serious business.

Perhaps if you have never been on Retreat and you are reading this blog maybe it could be the next thing you need to do in order to unlock some unseen potential in your life.

However, above all else I thank God daily for the diverse way he speaks and meets with us. I am so in awe we have such a creative God who passionately longs to spend time with us and I am ever increasingly grateful that there are specific places where we can take time out to do just that.

Three months into our ‘new life’ we are facing our first really big challenge well that is apart from working together! Having no break from each other! Missing our Kids our Grandchildren even more and our best friends. In fact every thing that made up our old life, the familiarity of it all, not having to think where the best shops/restaurants were, and oh… how we miss curry. Sundays are just not the same Blue Ginger you must open a second restaurant here in Corners perfect opportunity a real dearth of curry houses and of course with so many Midlanders visiting your market is assured.

Any way back to the conundrum… why did we come here? I understand for many of you reading this you may be thinking it is something that we should have established before we even moved here. But actually we came out of sheer obedience to what we believe God was asking of us. Sounds all a bit ‘fancy’ I know. True we had, many prophetic words over a period of 5 years or so, that all pointed to where we are now. So in one sense God had been preparing us but the truth is each day we put one foot in front of the other and believe God is directing our paths and making them straight. I think we may be learning something very fundamental about faith! Because I guess that’s one of the things that separates us from non believers by faith……..

So the conundrum. For a period of five years or so Trelowarren has allowed a life coaching company geared to a particular industrial sector to use the retreat to host conferences twice a year. As I write they are here now. But in it all it has caused Mike and I to look at why we are here …I guess that’s what life coaching does!! And we are not even part of the training! However, what we have deduced is that we have not uprooted our lives to run a conferencing center we could have stayed in Shropshire to do that. We are here for much more and each day God reveals a little bit more of those plans and purposes he has for us. Incidentally we are not anti life coaching-its a great tool but we are against any type of coaching that proffers the doctrine it all about me! We were created to be relational people firstly with God and then one another.

We heard from one of our good friends a few weeks ago about a Church who was meeting in a Hotel, as we would consider fairly normal. However, they were asked to leave because this Hotel had become licensed to hold civil ceremonies and having Christian meetings taking place was no longer conducive to its target market. When you hear stories like this it makes Trelowarren and such places set-aside specifically for Gods purposes so important and so precious. We thank God that the trust was set up nearly forty years ago and in those days it was relatively easy for organisations with Christian objectives to get a charity number sadly not so now.

Our programme of events is coming together really well and hopefully in the not too distant future Trelowarren will be once again at the cutting edge of what God is pouring into the UK at this present time!

Speak soon
